A diaspora-led initiative has delivered two fire trucks to Zamfara State to boost emergency response and improve safety infrastructure in the region.

The donation was facilitated by MapleAfrica Alliance, a Canada–Africa collaboration platform, with support from the international volunteer organisation Firefighters Without Borders, which works to strengthen fire and emergency services in underserved communities.

The project was coordinated by members of the MapleAfrica Alliance team, including Akeem Ameen, Maryam Ameen, Akeem Dosunmu, Adeola Bukoye and Abdikarim Omar.

Officials say the equipment will help local authorities respond more effectively to fire outbreaks and other emergencies, particularly in areas where firefighting resources are limited.

Zamfara State, located in Nigeria’s northwest, has faced several development and security challenges in recent years. However, it remains a region with rich cultural heritage and significant mineral resources.

The organisers said the donation reflects the growing role of Nigerians in the diaspora in supporting development initiatives back home through partnerships, philanthropy and knowledge exchange.

They noted that stronger cooperation between diaspora communities and local institutions can contribute to improving public services, strengthening infrastructure and supporting long-term community resilience.
