President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s bid for a second term has received a notable endorsement from the Nigerian diaspora, as Yoruba Ni Colorado (YNC), a United States-based socio-political group, declared full support for his 2027 re-election campaign.

The endorsement came during a courtesy visit to the Director-General of the Tinubu Support Group (TSG), Dr. Umar Tanko Yakasai, in Abuja. Speaking on behalf of the group, YNC President, Dr. Adetola Obiwole, said the diaspora community has closely followed President Tinubu’s economic and governance reforms since 2023 and is convinced that Nigeria is finally on a trajectory of meaningful change.

“We believe continuity is key. Nigerians abroad are proud of the direction the country is heading under Tinubu's leadership, and we are ready to mobilise support for his return in 2027,” Obiwole stated.

Dr. Obiwole also called on the National Assembly to expedite constitutional amendments that would allow Nigerians living abroad to vote in national elections, arguing that diaspora citizens remain committed stakeholders in Nigeria’s development.

Backing her remarks, YNC General Secretary, Prince George Sotade, declared, “There is no vacancy in Aso Rock. Our message is clear: the Yoruba diaspora stands solidly behind Asiwaju.”

The YNC delegation is currently in Nigeria on a medical outreach mission, offering free healthcare services to underserved communities as part of their broader commitment to national development.

In response, TSG Director-General Dr. Yakasai lauded the group’s loyalty and community service, highlighting the importance of diaspora contributions to the country’s growth.

“Your consistency in supporting the President is commendable. Many forget home once they settle abroad, but you’ve continued to give back, and we recognize that,” Yakasai said.

He also encouraged more diaspora professionals, particularly in healthcare, to invest in local mentorship initiatives that can help curb medical tourism and retain talent within Nigeria.

The meeting underscores growing diaspora political engagement as calls intensify for institutionalizing diaspora voting ahead of the 2027 general elections.
