Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has expressed strong support for allowing Nigerians living abroad to participate in future elections, stating that collaboration is ongoing with the National Assembly to establish a legal framework for diaspora voting.

Speaking at the inauguration of the new executive committee member of the APC France chapter in Paris. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje called on Nigerians in the diaspora, particularly APC members, to throw their weight behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s reform agenda and the Renewed Hope vision aimed at repositioning the country for long-term prosperity. Ganduje also emphasized the importance of giving diaspora citizens a voice in national decision-making. He referenced a proposed bill introduced by House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas and Hon. Sadiq Abdullahi, which seeks to enable eligible Nigerians overseas to vote during elections conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

“Our citizens abroad contribute significantly to national development. They deserve full political participation,” Ganduje said, highlighting ongoing reforms and the importance of inclusion.

He also noted growing political stability and confidence at home, suggesting that it has inspired a wave of support and increased membership from various quarters.

In her remarks, Hajjiya Amina Musa Baba Suzuki, newly appointed chairperson of the France chapter, called for greater recognition and support for diaspora chapters, describing them as mobilizers and advocates for Nigeria’s progress on the global stage.

The conversation around diaspora voting continues to gain traction, signaling a shift toward more inclusive democratic processes that reflect Nigeria’s global citizenry.
