The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has announced the deployment of special security measures to prevent attacks during the Christmas festivities across the country, assuring Nigerians of heightened protection throughout the holiday period.

The assurance was contained in a statement issued on Sunday by the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Micheal Onoja, who said the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) are working closely with other security agencies to maintain peace and stability nationwide.
According to the DHQ, security operations have been intensified in identified vulnerable areas, with additional troops deployed to strategic locations and major routes to deter criminal activities and ensure the safety of citizens.
The statement noted that special forces units and air support elements have been placed on high alert to guarantee rapid response to any emerging threats during the festive season.

Onoja explained that surveillance activities have also been stepped up, including aerial monitoring and intelligence gathering, to track the movement and communication patterns of suspected criminal groups across different regions.
“The DHQ wishes to inform the public that robust and proactive measures aimed at preventing any attacks during the Christmas festivities have been emplaced. The AFN, working closely with other security agencies, have intensified operations across identified vulnerable areas,” the statement said.
“Additional troops have been deployed to strategic locations and routes, while special forces units and air support elements have been placed on high alert to ensure rapid response capability. Surveillance efforts, including aerial monitoring and intelligence gathering, have also been heightened,” it added.
The Defence Headquarters reaffirmed the Armed Forces’ commitment to protecting lives and property, calling on citizens to remain calm but vigilant and to promptly report suspicious activities, while the Chief of Defence Staff, General OO Oluyede, wished Nigerians a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year in advance.
