Iran Rights Group Warns of ‘Mass Killing’ Amid Protests

A human rights group has warned that Iranian authorities may be responsible for a “mass killing” following a violent crackdown on widespread protests across the country.

The Norway-based Iran Human Rights group said it had confirmed the deaths of at least 192 protesters but warned the actual figure could be much higher.

The protests, which began over rising living costs, have grown into a broader movement against Iran’s political system and have lasted for over two weeks.

Rights groups also raised concerns about a prolonged internet shutdown, which they say is preventing accurate reporting and hiding the true scale of the violence.

Iranian authorities, however, insist they are dealing with “rioters” allegedly backed by foreign powers, while denying responsibility for excessive use of force.
