The Nigeria Civil Society Situation Room has intensified advocacy for mandatory electronic transmission of election results, staging protests at the National Assembly.

Coalition leaders argue that the Senate’s proposed “conditional transmission” clause in the Electoral Act Amendment Bill 2025 could weaken transparency and undermine electoral credibility ahead of the 2027 elections.
Co-Convener Andrew Mamedu insisted that real-time electronic transmission from polling units to the INEC portal must be unconditional.
The group urged lawmakers to adopt the House of Representatives’ stricter version to eliminate ambiguity and prevent manipulation.

Electoral reform advocates say clarity in the law is essential to sustaining voter confidence and democratic accountability.
