Canada Court to Hear Case Against Nigerian Man, Six Others Over Alleged Driving Test Bribery Scheme

A Canadian court in Toronto is set to begin proceedings today involving a Nigeria-born resident, Samuel Adewale, and six other individuals accused of operating an illegal scheme to manipulate driving examinations in Ontario.

Samuel Adewale and his co-accused are facing allegations linked to a coordinated operation that allegedly influenced outcomes of G-class driving tests through improper financial inducements.

Authorities say the group was arrested following a long-running investigation triggered by inconsistencies detected in the driver examination system. The suspected irregularities reportedly led officials to widen their probe across multiple testing centres.

The suspects are collectively facing multiple criminal charges, including bribery, conspiracy, breach of trust, secret commissions, and money laundering. Prosecutors allege the operation involved accepting payments in exchange for favourable treatment during driving assessments.

Officials claim the scheme compromised the integrity of the licensing system, allowing some applicants to obtain licences without fully meeting required standards. The accused are said to have operated across several locations within the Greater Toronto Area.

Law enforcement authorities have defended the arrests, stating that the investigation is part of broader efforts to protect public safety and ensure that licensing systems remain credible and free from corruption. The defendants are expected to enter their first court appearances today.
