The Bayelsa State House of Assembly has confirmed Pastor Peter Pereotubo Akpe as the new Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State. The confirmation followed deliberations during plenary on Tuesday.

Akpe’s nomination was put forward by Governor Douye Diri, under whom he previously served as Chief of Staff. His confirmation was widely anticipated, given his extensive experience within the state’s political and administrative structures.
During the plenary session, lawmakers acknowledged Akpe’s prior service as Majority Leader of the House and asked him to take a bow and leave in line with parliamentary tradition. Supporters gathered at the Assembly complex, chanting congratulatory slogans in celebration of his confirmation.
Akpe holds a PhD in Administration and Planning from the University of Port Harcourt and has held several key positions in Bayelsa State, including Head of Administration in the Office of the Deputy Governor and Commissioner in the State House of Assembly Service Commission.

His appointment is expected to strengthen the executive arm of government as the Diri administration continues its governance agenda in the state.
