The Da-Amakiri Tubo and Amanyanabo of the Elem Kalabari Kingdom, Abubakr Dokubo-Asari, has called on Kalabari indigenes in the diaspora to return home and invest in Nigeria to drive economic development.
In his New Year goodwill message addressed to monarchs, chiefs, elites, and the general populace of the Kalabari Kingdom, Dokubo-Asari highlighted the untapped potential in their homeland.
"Our people need to come back home to build houses here instead of buying land in other communities. I urge my fellow Kalabari brothers and sisters worldwide to set up businesses here that will boost the economy of the Kalabari Kingdom and provide jobs for our people," he said.
He noted that the Kalabari region is rich in oil, is gas, marine transportation, agriculture, and tourism, offering abundant opportunities for profitable investments.
Dokubo-Asa ri also addressed youth empowerment, urging the younger generation to steer clear of cultism and violence, instead focusing on peaceful and constructive activities that advance the community's well-being.
Reaffirming his commitment to resource control and environmental conservation in the Niger Delta, he shared his personal story of relocating from Port Harcourt to Obuama in 2017, selling all his property to invest in the community. According to him, his investments have significantly transformed Obuama into a thriving and vibrant hub.
Dokubo-Asari’s call resonates as an appeal to all Kalabari people in the diaspora to reconnect with their roots and contribute to the development of their homeland.
