The All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially welcomed Senator Sunday Katung of Kaduna South into its ranks, following his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The senator received his APC membership card in a ceremony held at Madakiya Ward, Zangon Kataf Local Government Area, with the ward chairman personally handing over the card.
Senator Katung described his move as a strategic effort to strengthen the party’s presence in Southern Kaduna. He expressed optimism that joining the ruling party would help consolidate support and foster unity among constituents.
“Our goal is to contribute to APC’s growth and ensure electoral victories in all forthcoming contests,” Katung stated through his media aide, Midat Joseph. He cited President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s policies and governance initiatives as key factors in his decision to switch parties.
The senator also appealed to residents and local leaders to support the APC, emphasizing collective action for the development of Southern Kaduna. “I encourage everyone to collaborate with us to drive progress and unity in the region,” he added.
In a related political shift, former senator and diplomat Abdallah Wali formally resigned from the PDP, ending more than twenty years of affiliation. Wali submitted a resignation letter on December 31, 2025, addressed to the PDP leadership in Sanyinna Ward, Tambuwal Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The former lawmaker expressed gratitude to the party for the opportunities to serve at both national and local levels, thanking supporters for their steadfast loyalty over the years. Copies of the resignation were sent to both local and state party offices, making his departure official.
As of now, Senator Wali has not disclosed his future political plans, sparking speculation over whether he will join another party or retire from active political engagement.
