The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, has called on Nigerians in the Diaspora, particularly party members, to unite and work collectively towards national development and the positive projection of Nigeria on the global stage.
Yilwatda made the call while delivering a keynote address via Zoom at a strategic economic summit held in New York, United States. He stressed that unity remains the strongest pillar for national progress and political cohesion abroad, warning that disunity weakens both party organisation and Nigeria’s international influence.
Addressing APC members across the United States and other countries, the party chairman urged them to engage through the Office of the Special Adviser on Diaspora Coordination and Mobilisation, describing it as the recognised platform for addressing party matters and strengthening coordination among members abroad.
He commended APC members in the United States for resolving previous internal disputes and presenting a united front, noting that Nigerians in the Diaspora play a critical role in national development through investment, advocacy, and strategic global engagement.
Yilwatda reaffirmed the appointment of Professor Tai Balofin as Special Adviser on Diaspora Coordination and Mobilisation, clarifying that the APC Diaspora structure remains constitutionally recognised and has not been dissolved. He urged members worldwide to collaborate fully with Balofin to ensure effective global mobilisation.
The APC chairman also called on groups operating outside the recognised party framework to realign with official structures, stressing that unity and discipline are essential for the party’s credibility and long-term growth both at home and abroad.
The summit attracted key stakeholders, including Nigeria’s Consul General, Ambassador Abubakar Jidda; Acting Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Syndoph Endoni; and the Mayor of Linden, New Jersey, Derek Armstead, who highlighted the economic benefits of stronger Nigeria–U.S. partnerships, especially for cities with significant Nigerian populations.
