A second teenager has been formally charged in connection with the fatal shooting of 14-year-old British-Nigerian boy, Eghosa Ogbebor, in the Woolwich area of southeast London.
According to the Metropolitan Police Service, the latest suspect, a 15-year-old boy whose name was withheld because of his age, was arrested earlier this month and later charged with murder.
Authorities said the teenager is expected to appear before a youth court as investigations into the killing continue.
Eghosa was shot on April 2 along Lord Warwick Street in Woolwich after police received emergency reports of gunfire in the area during the afternoon. Officers and paramedics reportedly arrived at the scene and found the teenager suffering from serious gunshot wounds. He was later pronounced dead at the location despite emergency efforts to save him.
The incident triggered a major homicide investigation, with detectives pursuing multiple suspects believed to be linked to the attack.
Police disclosed that this is now the second murder charge brought in relation to the teenager’s death. Earlier in April, a 16-year-old boy from Romford was also charged with murder and remanded in custody following a court appearance.
Investigators added that several other individuals arrested during the course of the inquiry have since been released on bail while detectives continue gathering evidence.
Among those previously detained were a 19-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murder and a 46-year-old man suspected of assisting an offender. Additional arrests involving teenagers and another adult male were also made shortly after the shooting.
The Metropolitan Police said specially trained officers are continuing to support Eghosa’s family as the investigation remains active.
