Adire International Carnival`is-a cultural event organised every two years in Vienna, Austriä to promote Nigerian/Yoruba cultural heritage, tourism, trade, commerce and above all to foster a friendly relationship between Nigerian and our host county Austria as part of the Nigeria Cultural Festival by Egbe Omo Oduduwa Austria (The Yoruba community in Austria).
The idea of Adire carnival was conceived 2013 in Vienna and the maiden edition was organised in collaboration with the Nigeria Embassy in Vienna, Austria under the leadership of her Excellency Ambassador Maria Laose who coincidentally is from Abeokuta, Ogun state of Nigeria the origin of Adire fabrics.
The maiden edition also featured the Nigerian Nollywood film festival Which included screening of films like "Last Flight to Abuja" and "Mirror Boy" Nollywood actors like Odulade Adekola, Bolaji Amusan (Mr AKA. Mr Latin), film produce Obi Emelonye and many others attended the 2013 festival. The festival was attended by Nigerians Diaspora from all over the world. None- Nigerians were not left out of the mega event.
The Nigeria Cultural Festival, which is now known and referred to as Yoruba (Nigeria) Cultural Festival, took place in the year 2013, 2016, 2018, 2020 (Virtual), and 2022. This year edition is slated for Saturday the 29th of June 2024.
The event is also to promote the Adire textile fabric which has her origin in the western part of Nigeria. The event supports the small-scale textile industry with creation of job opportunities
It also serves_as foreign exchange earner for the government as thousands of bundles of the Actire fabrics are being exported outside the country to Austria and other parts of the world .
This year's event would be attended by many prominent Nigerians and Royal fathers, including, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa OON, Ambassador Ayoola Olukani former Nigeria High Commissioner to Australia, Ambassador Baba Madugu former Nigeria Ambassador to Switzerland, His Royal Majesty Oba Prof Adeyemi Obalanlege (The Olota of Ota Awori kingdom, Ogun State Nigeria), The Ogun State government would be represented by the Hon. Sesan Fagbayi (The state Commissioner for Culture and Tourism) and Lagos State government by the Head Of The Lagos State Office Of Diaspora Affairs. Mr Jermaine Sanwoolu, just to mention few.
Other programs of the four days event are: • Susan Wenger Arts exhibition showcasing the works of the Late Osun princess Susan Wenger A.K.A Aduni Olorisha on the 26th and 27th of June in Krems in lower Austria province. Mini trade fair showcasing made in Nigeria products alongside the children cultural program, where the children would be expected to demonstrate their Yoruba language skills.
The highlight of the day's events would be the Diaspora engagement conference with interactive session with Hon Abike Dabiri Erewa Chairman/CEO NIDCOM on the Friday 28th of June.
