The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Imo State has urged citizens living abroad to actively support former governor Emeka Ihedioha in the 2027 governorship election.

Comrade Bryan Agu, Director-General of the Directorate for Support Groups, Diaspora Affairs, and Civil Society Organisations, described Ihedioha’s seven-month tenure as a benchmark for transparency, fiscal discipline, and institutional reforms in the state.

During his administration, Ihedioha introduced the Treasury Single Account, Central Billing System, payroll automation, and strengthened due process mechanisms, measures that restored accountability in public finance.

These reforms reportedly earned Imo recognition as the least corrupt state at the time, boosting investor confidence and signaling a shift from opaque governance to structured administration.

Agu highlighted the “Rebuild Imo” agenda, which prioritized strategic road rehabilitation, rural access projects, and repositioning agriculture as a business venture to stimulate economic growth.

He also noted improvements in health, water and sanitation, the civil service, and ease of doing business, all aimed at building a productive population and attracting local and foreign investment.

According to Agu, the Supreme Court verdict that removed Ihedioha from office in January 2020 interrupted a developmental trajectory, but the 2027 election offers an opportunity to complete the mission.

He called on Imo sons and daughters abroad to contribute ideas, mobilize resources, influence grassroots participation, and support credible leadership, emphasizing that the state’s future depends on both local and global engagement.
