The 38 church worshippers abducted by gunmen in Eruku, Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State, have finally reunited with their families, days after earlier reports indicated that officials had yet to release them despite confirming their rescue.

The victims were kidnapped on November 18, 2025, during a special thanksgiving service at CAC Oke Isegun, an attack in which three people were killed and another injured.
In a statement on Tuesday night, the Chief Press Secretary to the Ekiti Local Government Chairman, Dada Sunday, confirmed that Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq formally handed the freed abductees over to the LGA Chairman, Awelewa Olawale Gabriel, in Ilorin.
The statement noted that the handover signified the completion of a coordinated rescue effort involving federal and state security agencies, with Awelewa expressing gratitude to President Bola Tinubu, the governor, the NSA, and security operatives for what he called a prompt intervention.

The abductees arrived in Eruku around 6:30 pm on Tuesday, where jubilant relatives and residents trooped out to welcome them back to the community.
“We appreciate the comprehensive medical care and provisions given to the abductees after their rescue, and we remain committed to strengthening security in all 10 wards,” Awelewa said.
“Their return has brought relief to the entire community. Since the day of the attack, our people have not been at peace,” the Owa of Eruku added.
The incident highlights the growing security challenges in Kwara’s border communities, particularly in Ekiti LGA, which has recorded multiple abductions in recent years.
