2027: ADC Diaspora Advocates for South-East Presidential Ticket

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) Diaspora Network covering the Middle East and Asia has urged the party to zone its 2027 presidential ticket to Southern Nigeria, with a preference for the South-East.

The call follows a decision by the network’s Executive Council, which emphasized that zoning to the South would advance national unity, fairness, and political balance. ADC-DN Secretary-General Anefu Ngbede Emmanuel highlighted that, with the current president hailing from the South, it is equitable and strategically sound for the party to continue its presidential focus in the region.

The group argued that selecting a candidate from the South-East would bolster the party’s influence in the South-East, South-South, and parts of the South-West. Recent defections of lawmakers from the South-East to ADC, they noted, signal growing support and present an opportunity to solidify the party’s base.

“Granting the South-East the chance to present a presidential candidate, whether through consensus or a global primary, will enhance ADC’s electoral prospects,” the network said. They stressed that the candidate must demonstrate integrity, competence, and a commitment to national development.

The diaspora network concluded by urging ADC leadership to embrace zoning as a strategic tool for unity and success ahead of the 2027 elections.
