The Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation Americas (NiDOA) has urged the United States government to cooperate with Nigeria in addressing security and crime-related challenges instead of taking steps that could violate the country’s sovereignty.
The Continental Chairman of NiDOA, Dr. Victor Ubani, made the appeal in a phone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday, while reacting to the decision of former U.S. President Donald Trump to label Nigeria “a country of particular concern” over alleged failure to protect Christians, alongside a threat of possible military intervention.
“While we are aware of the mixed feelings rising from the designation of Nigeria as country of particular concern by President Trump, we implore the Federal Government to explore all diplomatic strategies in ensuring amicable resolution of such designation.
“While we also appreciate the U.S. concerns about the lives of Nigerians at home, we believe Nigeria will emerge even stronger amid Trump’s threats,’’ he said.
Ubani advised the Federal Government to respond to the U.S. stance through diplomacy built on dialogue, transparency and multi-stakeholder engagement, rather than tensions or confrontation.
He also urged authorities in Abuja to intensify efforts to tackle insecurity by holding perpetrators of violent crimes accountable, stressing that decisive action would strengthen national stability and global confidence.
Ubani further appealed to Nigerians at home and abroad to avoid division and resist actions capable of derailing peace efforts.
“We enjoin compatriots at home and abroad to shun sentiments and unite at this critical moment.
“We enjoin compatriots at home and abroad to shun sentiments and unite at this critical moment.
“This is not the time for division or rhetoric but a time for nation building. It is a great time to rebrand Nigeria’s image and to bring about sustainable peace.
“By so doing, we will change negative narratives perceived about Nigeria and forge new path toward attaining greater heights,” he said.
The NiDOA leader pledged the organisation’s continued partnership with the Federal Government and Nigerians worldwide in safeguarding the country’s sovereignty and advancing its development.

According to him, collective effort is the only way Nigeria can achieve long-term progress while navigating current national and international pressures.
