US-Based Engineer Launches AI Platform to Combat Online Fraud

A Nigerian-born software engineer resident in the United States has unveiled an artificial intelligence-powered platform designed to curb fraud in online marketplaces and strengthen trust in digital transactions.

Henry Uwabor, the founder of Finaive, said the initiative was conceived in response to persistent credibility issues that undermine e-commerce growth, particularly in emerging markets. He noted that many buyers and sellers operate in environments where there are limited safeguards to guarantee transparency.

Uwabor explained that his early exposure to Nigeria’s informal digital economy shaped his thinking. From physical tech markets to social media storefronts run from private homes, he observed that transactions often depend on blind trust, leaving both parties vulnerable to losses.

To address this structural gap, Finaive developed an AI-driven verification tool known as AI-TrustScore. The system evaluates the reliability of users before transactions are concluded, shifting the focus from post-incident dispute resolution to preventive risk assessment.

According to Uwabor, the model relies on verified identity data, transaction patterns, and logistics performance. By integrating delivery information, the system confirms whether goods are dispatched and received as promised, adjusting credibility scores in real time.

The startup has gained international backing, earning admission into the NVIDIA Inception Program and AWS Activate, which provide technical infrastructure and business support to emerging technology firms. It was also selected for the Dingman Center for Entrepreneurship after a competitive review process.

Before founding Finaive, Uwabor worked at Amazon, where he contributed to predictive decision-making systems. He previously launched RealmIII, a student-focused social platform that gained national recognition in Nigeria, reinforcing his track record in building technology-driven solutions.
