The United Kingdom has summoned Iran’s ambassador to London, Seyed Ali Mousavi, following allegations linked to espionage activities and national security concerns. British authorities criticised Tehran’s conduct, describing it as destabilising both within the UK and internationally.

The diplomatic move comes after two individuals, an Iranian national and a dual Iranian-British citizen, were charged under the UK’s National Security Act. Officials say the suspects are accused of assisting a foreign intelligence service.

According to prosecutors, the accused allegedly carried out surveillance operations targeting locations and individuals connected to the Jewish community in London. Among the sites reportedly monitored was a synagogue, raising serious security concerns.

The development adds to longstanding warnings from UK intelligence agencies and lawmakers about what they describe as a growing threat linked to Iranian activities on British soil.

In a related case, authorities disclosed that an Iranian man and a Romanian woman were arrested for attempting to gain access to a high-security Royal Navy base in Scotland. The facility houses the UK’s nuclear submarine fleet and forms a key part of the country’s strategic defence system.

While the Iranian suspect has been released pending further investigations, prosecutors confirmed that no immediate legal action would be taken against the Romanian national, although future proceedings remain possible if new evidence emerges.

British officials have also expressed concern that the country could become a potential target due to its involvement in ongoing tensions involving Iran, the United States, and Israel.

The UK government has maintained that its cooperation with US military operations involving its bases is strictly defensive, even as geopolitical tensions in the Middle East continue to escalate.
