United Bank for Africa has introduced a new healthcare investment initiative targeted at Nigerians living abroad, as the bank seeks to channel diaspora capital into strengthening Nigeria’s healthcare system.
The initiative was unveiled during the 2026 symposium of the Association of Nigerian Physicians in the Americas held in Charlotte, North Carolina, where Nigerian medical professionals gathered to discuss healthcare challenges and opportunities affecting communities across Africa, the Caribbean and North America.
According to him, the newly introduced ANPA–UBA Diaspora Healthcare Investment Platform will focus on financing specialist hospitals, diagnostic facilities, telemedicine services and medical training centres in Nigeria.
Rao explained that the investment structure is designed to provide both financial returns and long-term social impact, while leveraging Nigeria’s evolving financial and regulatory systems to support sustainable healthcare development.
As part of broader engagement plans with Nigerian healthcare professionals abroad, the bank also proposed a partnership framework with ANPA chapters in the Carolinas. The proposed collaboration covers financial literacy programmes, healthcare infrastructure financing, wealth planning services, healthcare access initiatives and investment support schemes.
UBA noted that the move forms part of its wider diaspora banking strategy, which includes multi-currency banking solutions, investment products, private wealth services and financial packages tailored for Nigerians living overseas.
The bank added that diaspora investments remain a major driver for improving healthcare infrastructure and accelerating development across Nigeria and other parts of Africa.
