Indian authorities have arrested two Nigerian nationals in connection with the killing of a fellow Nigerian following a violent dispute in Pune, western India. The incident occurred in the Pisoli–Phursungi area in the early hours of Monday, sending shockwaves through the Nigerian community in the city.

The suspects, identified as Chukwudi Okafor, 31, and Samuel Eze, 34, are accused of fatally assaulting Emeka Christian, a 40-year-old Nigerian garment trader who was legally residing in India. Christian reportedly held a valid residence visa and had been living in the country for several years.

Investigations indicate that the incident followed a small social gathering at the apartment of a Nigerian woman on Sunday night. The gathering, which initially appeared cordial, later degenerated into a heated argument reportedly linked to a romantic relationship involving the woman.

Police sources said the disagreement continued into the early hours of Monday, with tensions escalating as alcohol was consumed. The argument reportedly became more intense shortly before 3 a.m. when the victim decided to leave the apartment.

As Christian attempted to exit the premises, he was allegedly followed to the parking area, where he was attacked with a hard object. He sustained severe injuries during the assault and collapsed shortly after.

Members of the Nigerian community in Pune rushed the injured man to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment. Despite efforts by medical personnel, he was pronounced dead while receiving care.

Authorities confirmed that the two suspects have been taken into custody and are being interrogated. Police also disclosed that investigations are ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the killing, as they believe other individuals may have been involved in the fatal attack.
