Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Wednesday officially commissioned two newly upgraded roads Abaranje Road in Igando-Ikotun LCDA and Babajide Sanwo-Olu Road (formerly Dopemu Road) in Agege further reinforcing his administration’s pledge to improve intra-city connectivity and infrastructure development under the A Greater Lagos Rising agenda.

The events, held on-site in both communities, drew key government officials, traditional rulers, party leaders, and enthusiastic residents who lauded the long-awaited upgrades.

The newly rehabilitated Abaranje Road is a major access route serving the densely populated Igando-Ikotun axis of Alimosho LGA. Speaking at the commissioning, Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized the road’s role in reducing travel time, improving drainage, and easing the movement of goods and residents in the area.

“This road is not just an upgrade in asphalt and concrete; it is a strategic investment in the livelihoods of our people. We are building infrastructure that connects communities and drives economic opportunities,” the governor stated.

The ceremony was attended by notable figures including Deputy Governor Dr. Obafemi Hamzat; APC Lagos Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi; Alimosho APC Leader, Hon. Bisi Yusuf; the Onikotun of Ikotun, Oba Azeez Gbadabiu Asiwaju; and the Onishasha of Shasha Kingdom, Oba Nasiru Ogunronbi.

Later in the day, the governor also commissioned the refurbished Dopemu Road in Agege, now renamed Babajide Sanwo-Olu Road in recognition of his commitment to infrastructural renewal across the state. The road, a vital artery for Agege and neighboring communities, was overhauled with improved road surface, upgraded drainage systems, and pedestrian-friendly features.

Governor Sanwo-Olu was joined by the Deputy Governor, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transportation, Mr. Olawale Musa, and his Special Adviser on Infrastructure, Engr. Olufemi Daramola, who all reaffirmed the administration’s resolve to sustain momentum on critical projects.

Residents and community leaders expressed gratitude, describing the projects as transformative and timely, particularly as the rainy season approaches.

The dual commissioning adds to the growing list of road and transport projects completed under the present administration, with more expected in coming months.

Both projects are part of broader statewide efforts to enhance urban mobility, reduce flooding, and boost economic activity. Sanwo-Olu reiterated that road infrastructure remains a key pillar of his second-term agenda.

“We are focused on sustainable development, ensuring that every part of Lagos feels the impact of good governance,” he said.
