The British High Commission in Accra inaugurated its first-ever Diaspora Economic Growth Summit, a landmark event aimed at strengthening economic collaboration between Ghana and the United Kingdom through strategic diaspora engagement.
Organised in partnership with the Bank of Ghana, the summit brought together policymakers, business leaders, and diaspora representatives to explore how Ghana’s global community can support investment, trade, and sustainable development initiatives in the country.
As the keynote speaker, Ghanaian-British media executive Peace Hyde emphasized the transformative role of storytelling in building bridges between Accra and London. She argued that compelling narratives can not only unite communities but also create pathways for investment and economic growth.
Hyde, an award-winning journalist and producer, is best known for her role as executive producer of the Netflix reality series Young, Famous and African. She is also recognised as the only Ghanaian with an original production deal with Netflix, placing her among a select group of African producers with major streaming partnerships.
During her address, Hyde reflected on her personal journey from teaching science in the UK to becoming a leading figure in African media. She described her career evolution as proof of the power of persistence and innovation in the creative industry.
Her work has earned international recognition, including praise from GQ Magazine for her contribution to Africa’s unscripted television sector.
The summit marks a key step in the UK and Ghana’s ongoing efforts to deepen economic ties and engage the diaspora as a driver of development.
