Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Kwara State have apprehended 12 suspected illegal immigrants in Ilorin following intelligence reports from residents of the Akerebiata area.
The arrests were carried out late at night after community members alerted security authorities to unusual activities around a residential building. The individuals, believed to be nationals of Mali, were found occupying a two-bedroom apartment reportedly secured through a local agent.
Security officials said preliminary findings raised concerns about the circumstances surrounding their stay in the state. Items recovered during the operation included several mobile phones, international passports, identity cards, keys, cash, and other personal effects.
The State Commandant, Bala Bodinga, confirmed that a comprehensive investigation is underway to establish the purpose of their presence and determine whether any laws were breached.
He stated that once investigations are concluded, the suspects would be transferred to the Nigeria Immigration Service for further profiling and necessary administrative procedures in line with immigration regulations.
Bodinga emphasized that the corps remains alert amid heightened security concerns and would not tolerate any attempt to use Kwara as a base for unlawful activities.
He urged residents to continue sharing timely information with security agencies, stressing that public cooperation remains critical to maintaining safety and preventing criminal infiltration across the state.
