Nigerian socialite Henry Ikeji has dismissed claims that he was involved in a $2.5 million online romance and investment scam, describing the allegations as an attempt to tarnish his reputation. Speaking with AIT on Wednesday, Ikeji denied defrauding a Romanian woman and insisted the narrative circulating online misrepresented the facts.

The controversy stems from a recent investigative documentary suggesting Ikeji allegedly impersonated the Crown Prince of Dubai in a sophisticated online scheme. According to the report, the scheme purportedly defrauded the victim of approximately $2.5 million. Ikeji, however, said the funds were actually paid into a Nigerian naira account and questioned the motive behind the accusations.

“All my friends are doubting me, and people are calling me a criminal online,” Ikeji told reporters. “I feel there is a targeted effort to destroy my reputation, even though the facts are being misrepresented.” He did not present documentary evidence during the interview to substantiate his claims.

Authorities at Nigeria’s National Cybercrime Centre are reviewing the documentary and other publicly available information. A senior police official confirmed that the investigation is still in the profiling stage and noted that formal complaints from the alleged victim or the documentary producers have not yet been received.

The socialite’s statements come amid growing public attention and speculation, with many questioning the accuracy of the claims circulating online. Despite widespread reporting, no formal charges have been announced against Ikeji, and it remains unclear whether the alleged victim has approached law enforcement in Nigeria or abroad.

Police have emphasized that the investigation is ongoing, and no conclusions will be drawn until sufficient evidence is gathered. Investigators continue to assess the documentary and other related sources to determine whether further legal action is warranted.

Ikeji’s legal team has not commented publicly on the matter, but supporters of the socialite argue that the allegations could have serious personal and professional repercussions if left unchallenged.

As the story develops, both local and international audiences remain attentive to updates from law enforcement and Ikeji himself regarding the validity of the allegations and potential next steps in the investigation.
