A Nigerian man has been sentenced to death by hanging after a Malaysian court found him guilty of murdering his four-year-old step-grandson. The crime occurred six years ago when the child was thrown from the third floor of an apartment in Setapak.

The accused, 48-year-old Ibekwe Emeka Augustine, was convicted after a thorough review of evidence by the Kuala Lumpur High Court. In addition to the capital sentence, Augustine received a five-year prison term for multiple other offences, including attempted murder of his seven-year-old biological son, causing grievous harm to his wife, attempted suicide, and sexual assault against his stepdaughter.

The court highlighted the severity of the offences, noting the premeditated nature of the child’s death and the repeated acts of violence within the family. Augustine’s sentences for the additional charges will run concurrently.

Authorities confirmed that all judicial procedures were strictly followed under Malaysian law, which mandates the death penalty for murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code. The case has reignited discussions on domestic violence and child protection in Malaysia.
