Nigerian Embassy in Kuwait Issues Security Advisory as Gulf Tensions Rise

The Nigerian Embassy in Kuwait has called on citizens living in Kuwait and Bahrain to exercise caution following a sharp escalation of hostilities across the Middle East.

In a public notice released on Sunday, the mission urged Nigerians to stay alert, comply with directives from authorities in their host countries, and avoid actions that could expose them to danger. The embassy appealed for calm, advising nationals to rely only on verified information from official government channels.

According to the statement, the embassy is closely tracking developments in the region and maintaining communication with leaders of Nigerian communities in both countries to ensure swift dissemination of credible updates.

To improve access to assistance, the diplomatic mission provided a dedicated phone and WhatsApp contact line for emergencies and general inquiries. Nigerians were also encouraged to reach out through the embassy’s official email address and to remain connected to structured community platforms for coordinated support.

The advisory follows coordinated military strikes reportedly carried out on February 28 by the United States and Israel on key Iranian leadership and military facilities. The operation targeted strategic installations, including naval and air defence assets, triggering retaliatory missile and drone attacks from Iran against Israeli territory and U.S. military positions across the Gulf.

Reports indicate that the fallout has intensified geopolitical uncertainty, particularly after claims that Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, was killed during the strikes. Iranian authorities have also been reported to be considering measures affecting the Strait of Hormuz, a vital oil transit corridor, heightening fears of disruptions to global energy supply chains.

Amid the unfolding crisis, Nigerian security authorities at home have assured the public that measures are in place to prevent any spillover effects, stressing that the country will not permit foreign conflicts to threaten domestic stability.

The embassy reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the welfare of Nigerians in Kuwait and Bahrain, promising continuous updates as the situation evolves.
