A Nigerian national has been taken into custody in Sierra Leone following his arrest at Freetown International Airport over suspected drug trafficking.

The suspect, identified as Patrick Nonso, was apprehended during routine screening procedures at the airport. Security officials reportedly discovered multiple wraps of a white powdery substance concealed in his possession, prompting immediate intervention by law enforcement officers.

Authorities disclosed that the substance, believed to be cocaine, was packaged in dozens of separate wraps. The exact weight and chemical composition are yet to be confirmed, pending the outcome of forensic laboratory analysis.

Investigators further revealed that the suspect was travelling with an Italian passport at the time of his arrest. He was subsequently transferred to police custody for interrogation and further inquiries.

The Sierra Leone Police confirmed that the suspect is cooperating with investigators as they work to determine the source and intended destination of the suspected narcotics.

Law enforcement agencies have also launched a broader probe to establish whether the incident is linked to a wider trafficking network. Officials are reviewing travel records and possible accomplices as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle cross-border drug operations.

Police authorities assured the public that updates will be provided as investigations progress, reiterating their commitment to combating drug trafficking and strengthening airport security measures.
