A Nigerian national is among several people injured after the United Arab Emirates’ air defence systems intercepted a series of ballistic missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles launched from Iran.

The attacks are reportedly part of ongoing regional tensions, with Iran retaliating against military operations conducted by allied forces in the Gulf. UAE authorities confirmed that most of the projectiles were successfully neutralised before reaching populated areas.

According to the Ministry of Defence, air defences tracked and intercepted dozens of missiles and hundreds of drones over the past week. While most fell harmlessly into the sea or unpopulated zones, debris caused injuries to residents and foreign nationals.

Officials said casualties include expatriates from numerous countries, including Nigeria, Pakistan, India, and others. The Ministry did not provide a detailed breakdown of the injuries by nationality.

Emergency services have been deployed to assist the injured, and hospitals are reporting that the majority of cases are moderate or minor. Authorities are continuing to monitor for additional threats in real time.

The sounds of explosions heard in parts of the UAE were confirmed to be defensive engagements, with air defence systems actively intercepting incoming threats to prevent civilian casualties.

Local authorities have urged residents and foreign workers to remain vigilant and avoid areas where debris from intercepted projectiles may have fallen.

The UAE Ministry of Defence reaffirmed its readiness to respond to any future missile or drone attacks and pledged continued protection for both citizens and the expatriate community.
