A group of Nigerian graduates from universities in Türkiye has announced plans to broaden its humanitarian efforts in Nigeria by introducing empowerment initiatives aimed at supporting disadvantaged youths and students across the country.
The association, known as the Türkiye Old Boys Association, said its future programmes will include scholarship opportunities, skills acquisition training and other empowerment schemes designed to help indigent young people build sustainable livelihoods.
For more than a decade, the alumni network has organised charitable outreach programmes, primarily during the festive season, providing financial assistance, food supplies and other relief materials to orphanages and vulnerable communities.
The initiative initially began as an annual reunion for members but later evolved into a charitable tradition where the association shares the joy of the Christmas and New Year season with less privileged Nigerians.
During the most recent charity cycle covering the 2025 and early 2026 festive period, the group carried out outreach visits to orphanages in Anambra and Imo States, where it donated items and financial support to the facilities.
Among the institutions visited was Blessed Nise Community Children’s Home in Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State. The management of the home expressed appreciation for the gesture and revealed that efforts were ongoing to develop a permanent site that would accommodate more children.
Another beneficiary was Nwadinaobi Orphanage Home in Obowo Local Government Area of Imo State, where the leadership of the centre commended the alumni group for bringing relief and encouragement to the children under their care.
Over the years, the association’s charity programmes have reached several facilities across Nigeria, including orphanages in Edo, Delta and Lagos States, as well as charitable centres in the Federal Capital Territory and medical facilities such as the neonatal unit of the General Hospital in Agulu, Anambra State. The group said it hopes to expand its activities further in the coming years to make a deeper social impact.
