Nigeria, Israel Strengthen Ties with Focus on Diaspora, Security, Innovation

Nigeria and Israel have renewed efforts to deepen bilateral relations, with fresh emphasis on diaspora engagement, security cooperation, healthcare support, and technology transfer.
The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, received Michael Freeman, Israel’s Ambassador to Nigeria, in Abuja, where both officials reviewed existing partnerships and mapped out new areas of collaboration.
Discussions spanned defence, intelligence sharing, economic ties, agricultural innovation, and consular matters affecting citizens of both countries.
A major aspect of the renewed engagement is the welfare and mobility of Nigerians and Israelis living across borders.
Both sides acknowledged the importance of structured dialogue on immigration processes, religious tourism, and consular services to ensure smoother experiences for members of their respective diasporas.
Security cooperation featured prominently, with Nigeria expressing interest in leveraging Israeli expertise in border surveillance and counter-terrorism strategies. The move is seen as part of broader efforts to curb insurgency and transnational threats, while enhancing capacity building through joint training and intelligence exchange.
In the health sector, Israel has indicated plans to donate between 50 and 60 fully equipped ambulances to Nigeria. The initiative, which will be rolled out in phases, will also include technical training for emergency response personnel. Officials say the intervention is expected to strengthen pre-hospital care systems and improve emergency response nationwide.
Agricultural technology and food security were also highlighted as priority areas. Israel signalled readiness to expand cooperation in precision farming, irrigation systems, and agri-tech innovation—sectors that could benefit Nigerian farmers at home and agribusiness investors in the diaspora seeking cross-border opportunities.
The renewed push builds on earlier high-level diplomatic engagements between both countries in 2025, where security, innovation, tourism, and cultural exchange were identified as pillars of long-term cooperation. With sustained diplomatic dialogue and structured bilateral mechanisms, Nigeria and Israel are positioning their partnership to deliver measurable economic and diaspora-centred outcomes.
