The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has unveiled plans to convene the Global Nigeria Diaspora Investment and Innovation Summit in Toronto, Canada, from August 13 to 15, 2026.
The three-day event will bring together diaspora investors, policymakers, financial institutions and development partners with the objective of accelerating capital inflows into Nigeria. Organisers describe the summit as a high-level, action-oriented platform focused on measurable investment outcomes.
Unlike previous diaspora engagements centred largely on dialogue, the upcoming summit is structured to prioritise deal facilitation, structured partnerships and implementation frameworks. Emphasis will be placed on translating diaspora interest into bankable projects and formal commitments.
A key feature of the programme will be the development of a screened investment pipeline. Projects identified as viable will be presented during dedicated pitching sessions, alongside matchmaking meetings designed to connect investors with federal and state-level opportunities.
An organising committee and secretariat are expected to oversee governance, stakeholder engagement, programme design and logistics. The framework will also incorporate digital participation channels to widen access for global participants unable to attend physically.
High-level sessions, sector-focused investment forums and commitment signings are scheduled as part of the summit agenda. Communications and targeted outreach campaigns will be deployed to mobilise broad-based diaspora participation across strategic industries.
Following the summit, mechanisms will be put in place to track investment pledges and report outcomes to stakeholders. The initiative aligns with ongoing efforts to position diaspora capital and expertise as a structured driver of sustainable growth and job creation in Nigeria.
