Morocco’s diplomatic mission in Spain has restated its commitment to prioritising the welfare and interests of Moroccans living in the country, unveiling measures aimed at improving consular services nationwide.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Moroccan Embassy in Madrid said it recently held a virtual coordination meeting with officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Rabat and representatives of its 12 consulates across Spain. The engagement focused on strengthening service delivery and ensuring closer oversight of consular operations for the diaspora.
According to the embassy, the review led to concrete steps designed to ease access to services. Working and public reception hours at consulates have been extended to 6:00 p.m. on weekdays, compared to the previous 3:00 p.m. closing time. Weekend and public holiday duty rosters have also been introduced to accommodate increased demand.
The embassy explained that the adjustments are intended to allow all applicants with appointments to complete their procedures under improved conditions while reducing congestion and delays.
It further stressed that consular staff across Spain remain on continuous standby to respond promptly to the needs and concerns of Moroccan citizens.
Moroccans constitute one of the largest foreign communities in Spain. Official figures show that 373,436 Moroccans were registered with Spain’s social security system in 2025, the highest number recorded to date.
This places Moroccans as the leading foreign contributors to social security in Spain, surpassing other major migrant groups such as Romanians and Colombians. The number of Moroccan contributors rose by 26,839 within the year, reflecting one of the strongest growth rates among foreign nationalities in the country.
