The Lagos State Government has commended the Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU) for suspending its recent industrial action, describing the decision as a demonstration of goodwill and shared commitment to safeguarding public healthcare services across the state. The government said the move reflects maturity and responsibility in prioritising the health needs of residents.

The Honourable Commissioner for Establishments and Training, Mr. Afolabi Ayantayo, made this known after a strategic meeting between state officials and executives of JOHESU. He praised the union’s leadership for embracing dialogue and constructive engagement as a pathway to resolving outstanding concerns.

According to Ayantayo, both parties agreed to sustain discussions while the union convenes its Congress to formally communicate the resolutions reached. He expressed optimism that normalcy would be fully restored across public healthcare facilities as implementation progresses.

The Commissioner reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to addressing the union’s demands for enhanced welfare benefits in line with established regulations and agreed timelines. He emphasised that the administration remains focused on promoting equitable treatment, improved working conditions, and sustainable welfare programmes for healthcare workers.

Ayantayo also acknowledged the intervention of the Lagos State House of Assembly in facilitating dialogue, noting that its constructive role significantly contributed to the amicable resolution. He thanked residents for their patience during the strike and reassured the public of uninterrupted access to quality healthcare services.
