Nairobi has initiated the evacuation of Kenyan nationals in Iran following a sharp rise in Middle East hostilities. The Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs confirmed that 15 citizens, including children and students, were safely evacuated via Türkiye and are expected to arrive in Kenya imminently.

The government has activated emergency protocols at its regional missions and continues to closely monitor the unfolding situation. Citizens in the region have been urged to follow guidance from Kenyan embassies and local authorities.

Officials highlighted that over 500,000 Kenyans work across the Middle East, prompting the State Department for Diaspora Affairs to advise extreme caution, avoid high-risk areas, and register with local embassies for timely assistance.

Hotlines, WhatsApp, and email channels have been provided for nationals needing urgent support. The government is also engaging with regional authorities to facilitate safe passage for those seeking to leave conflict zones.

Human trafficking and unregulated recruitment remain additional concerns for Kenyans abroad, authorities noted, as they continue to coordinate repatriation and protection measures.

Amid parliamentary discussions over funding for evacuation efforts, officials reiterated the priority of safeguarding citizens while maintaining ongoing diplomatic negotiations in the region.

Kenyans in neighboring Middle East countries have also been warned about potential disruptions to travel and airspace, emphasizing vigilance and adherence to official advisories.

The Ministry stressed that the situation remains fluid, promising continuous updates and support for all nationals affected by the escalating tensions.
