In a strategic move to deepen engagement with its diaspora population, the Kano State Government has announced plans to establish diaspora offices across its three senatorial districts. This initiative aims to harness the skills, resources, and investments of Kano indigenes living abroad for the state’s economic and social development.
As part of this effort, the administration has appointed two Special Advisers on diaspora matters. Their role will be to facilitate direct communication between the government and Kano indigenes abroad, ensuring that policies and programs align with the needs and aspirations of the diaspora.
Governor Abba Yusuf, represented by the Commissioner for Internal Security and Special Services, Major General Mohammed Idris (Rtd), revealed this development during a sensitization program focused on diaspora engagement. He highlighted the government’s commitment to creating an inclusive environment where the diaspora community can actively contribute to the state’s progress.
The sensitization program underscored the importance of a well-structured and intentional approach to diaspora relations. Experts at the event emphasized that Kano’s large diaspora population represents a valuable asset that, if properly engaged, can contribute significantly to key sectors such as education, healthcare, and industrialization.
By institutionalizing diaspora engagement at the senatorial district level, Kano joins a growing number of Nigerian states recognizing the economic and developmental potential of their citizens abroad. The initiative aligns with broader national efforts to leverage diaspora investments and expertise for sustainable development.
