Jermaine Sanwo-Olu Recognised on Georgia Senate Floor, Deepens Lagos–Georgia Diaspora Engagement

The Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Office of Diaspora Affairs, Jermaine Sanwo-Olu, has been formally recognised on the Senate Floor at the Georgia State Capitol during an official visit focused on strengthening diaspora engagement and international partnerships.

The recognition was facilitated by Georgia State Senator Donzella J. James, who honoured Jermaine Sanwo-Olu in acknowledgment of his role in advancing diaspora relations and fostering stronger connections between Africa and the African American community. The occasion also featured the presence of the 13th Lieutenant Governor of Georgia, Burt Jones.

Jermaine Sanwo-Olu described the recognition as a significant moment, noting that it reflects a growing global awareness of the importance of diaspora engagement in today’s interconnected world. He highlighted the role of leadership in building meaningful relationships that extend beyond borders.


During his visit to the Georgia State Capitol, He  engaged with key stakeholders and observed proceedings on the Senate Floor, where his recognition took place. The visit served as an opportunity to strengthen institutional ties and reinforce shared interests between Lagos and Georgia.


He commended Lieutenant Governor Burt Jones for representing a generation of leadership that understands the value of international collaboration, particularly in areas that promote economic growth and cross-cultural exchange.

Jermaine Sanwo-Olu also expressed appreciation to Senator Donzella J. James for her longstanding commitment to connecting Africa with the African American community through cultural exchange, dialogue, and sustained collaboration.

The Lagos diaspora official noted that the relationship between Africa and the global African diaspora continues to grow stronger through deliberate partnerships, shared heritage, and mutual respect, creating opportunities on both sides of the Atlantic.


He further acknowledged the support of Portia Gordon in facilitating the engagement, describing the visit as a reflection of ongoing efforts to deepen global connections. Jermaine Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening diaspora-focused initiatives that enhance cooperation, expand opportunities, and reinforce historic ties between Lagos and international partners.
