A group known as Ideato Women in Diaspora has announced a large-scale voter mobilisation initiative targeted at the 2027 House of Representatives election in Ideato Federal Constituency of Imo State.
The group said it plans to facilitate the registration and transfer of at least 30,000 voters as part of efforts to increase political participation across Ideato North and Ideato South local government areas.
Speaking during a media briefing held in Festac Town, Lagos, the organisation’s coordinator, Barrister Ifeoma Nwosu, explained that the campaign is focused on encouraging indigenes of the constituency, especially those living outside the state, to become actively involved in the electoral process.
According to her, the initiative is aimed at strengthening democratic participation while building support for Hon. Mrs. Nkechinyere Ugwu, who is being promoted by the group as a potential representative for the federal constituency in the 2027 elections.
Nwosu stated that many eligible voters from the area have remained politically inactive over the years, adding that the group intends to bridge that gap through sensitisation programmes and voter registration drives.
She noted that the mobilisation effort would involve community engagement, awareness campaigns, and assistance for eligible voters seeking to transfer their voter registration details to their hometowns in Imo State.
The coordinator also stressed the importance of women taking active roles in politics and leadership, saying the movement seeks to encourage greater female participation in governance and decision-making processes.
Members of the group expressed confidence that the planned voter drive would significantly influence political outcomes in the constituency ahead of the next general elections.
