The Caribbean nation of Grenada has unveiled plans for a major diaspora homecoming programme aimed at reconnecting its citizens abroad with their roots and encouraging stronger national development through diaspora participation.

The initiative, known as the 2026 Diaspora Homecoming, is scheduled to take place from June 21 to July 5 and will feature two weeks of cultural activities, community events and national engagement programmes across the island nation.

Authorities say the event is expected to attract Grenadians living in different parts of the world, including North America, Europe, the United Kingdom and other Caribbean countries. Organisers also anticipate participation from second- and third-generation descendants who want to explore their family heritage.

The programme was formally introduced during a press briefing at the Grenada National Cricket Stadium, where government officials and development partners highlighted the importance of stronger engagement between the country and its diaspora community.

The initiative is being coordinated by the Office of Diaspora Affairs, which is encouraging nationals living abroad to return and reconnect with family members, cultural traditions and the broader national community across Carriacou and Petite Martinique.

As part of the preparations, organisers announced a global logo design competition that will allow Grenadians at home and abroad to contribute creatively to the branding of the homecoming campaign. A dedicated website has also been launched to provide information on upcoming events and opportunities for diaspora involvement.

Officials say the programme will also support environmental and agricultural goals, including a nationwide effort to revive the country’s spice industry through the planting of thousands of new spice trees.

Tourism and development leaders have stressed that the diaspora remains a vital asset to Grenada’s economic growth, noting that citizens living abroad continue to contribute through investments, skills transfer and international advocacy. The homecoming programme is therefore expected to strengthen these ties while celebrating the culture and heritage of the island nation.
