A 23-year-old Ghanaian woman living in the United States, identified as Akua Akomea, has been discovered dead in a park in Virginia just hours after authorities announced she was missing.

According to law enforcement officials, Akomea had earlier been reported unreachable, prompting the Prince William County Police Department to issue a public alert requesting assistance in locating her.

Police said concerns had been raised about her wellbeing before she disappeared. Investigators initially noted there was no indication she had been abducted and believed she may have left voluntarily.

Later the same day, police confirmed that Akomea had been found dead in Manassas Park. The case was subsequently transferred to the Manassas Park Police Department for further investigation.

Officials said officers responded to a report of an unconscious woman at Blooms Park during the morning hours. Upon arrival, emergency responders found Akomea along one of the park trails and confirmed she had died at the scene.

Investigators disclosed that preliminary findings do not point to foul play. Authorities described the incident as isolated and stated there is currently no known threat to public safety.

The police have not yet released additional details regarding the circumstances surrounding her death as investigations continue.
