The Government of Ghana has summoned Russia’s ambassador in Accra following allegations that a man believed to be a Russian national recorded and shared intimate videos of Ghanaian women without their consent
Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa confirmed the diplomatic move, stating that the action was taken to formally protest what authorities described as a serious breach of Ghanaian law and the privacy rights of several victims.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the ambassador, Sergei Berdnikov, was asked to respond to the accusations and to cooperate with ongoing investigations. Officials stressed that the alleged conduct represents a grave violation of dignity and could amount to criminal offences under Ghanaian law.
During discussions, the Russian envoy reportedly acknowledged the gravity of the claims and indicated readiness to collaborate with Ghanaian authorities. However, he noted that confirmation of the suspect’s nationality remains pending, adding that the name circulating online does not clearly correspond to a recognised Russian identity.
Ghanaian officials revealed that similar allegations linked to the same individual have surfaced in other jurisdictions and are under review by Russian authorities. Although Ghana and Russia do not have a formal extradition agreement, both sides are exploring legal avenues for cooperation.
Separately, Ghana’s Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection confirmed it is working with law enforcement agencies and international partners to address the alleged digital exploitation. Authorities have also engaged online platforms to remove the content and enhance reporting mechanisms.
Support services, including psychosocial care and legal assistance, are being provided to affected individuals as investigations continue.
