Ghana Foreign Ministry Denies Overseas Operations by Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has dismissed reports claiming that the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has been approved to operate outside Ghana. The clarification follows widespread information suggesting that Ghanaians abroad would soon be able to register or renew their driver’s licences through DVLA officials overseas.

According to the Ministry, no approval has been granted for DVLA services in countries such as the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, or Germany. It stressed that no directives have been issued to Ghana’s embassies or consulates to support such an arrangement.

Officials further explained that there is no new government policy backing overseas licensing operations. They also confirmed that no financial commitments or formal engagements have been made to facilitate such services.

For Ghanaians living in the diaspora, this means driver’s licence registration and renewal must still be handled through approved processes within Ghana. The Ministry advised the public to rely only on official government communication regarding services affecting citizens abroad.

The government reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and proper coordination of public services, urging media outlets and the public to disregard misleading reports about DVLA operations overseas.
