Vice President Kashim Shettima has promised that the government will continue to support the Nigerian Armed Forces. He said the administration is determined to give the military everything they need to fight insecurity across the country.

The Vice President spoke during a special prayer session at the National Mosque in Abuja. This event was held to remember and celebrate soldiers as part of the 2026 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day.
Shettima paid a special tribute to the soldiers who died while fighting for Nigeria. He offered prayers for their souls and asked God to comfort their families. He said their sacrifices for the nation’s peace would never be forgotten.
He also mentioned that the name of the day has been changed slightly. It is now called "Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day." This is to make sure we celebrate the soldiers who are still serving while we remember those who have passed.

The government believes that a strong military is the only way to ensure national unity. By providing better equipment and support, they hope to end the security challenges that have been bothering the country for a long time.
