From the quiet town of Iyekhei in Auchi, Edo State, to overseeing billion-dollar hotel portfolios across the United States, Dr. Jeffrey Obomeghie is the quintessential diaspora success story. While many dream of making it big abroad, he’s done it and is opening doors for others to follow.
Today, Dr. Obomeghie is more than a hotel executive; he is an industry titan, bestselling author, and global hospitality advocate. But his journey to the top wasn’t scripted. It was written with grit, vision, and an unshakable belief in the power of reinvention.
Born on March 7, 1961, in Nigeria, young Jeffrey’s first steps in leadership came not through hospitality but through journalism. He was the founding editor-in-chief of The People’s Express in Lagos a bold start for a young man with a voice and a vision.
Seeking broader horizons, he left the University of Lagos and headed for the United States, where he later completed a Bachelor's in Political Science at the University of Maryland University College in 2015, a Master’s in Human Resource Management at Amberton University in 2016, and eventually a Ph.D. in Leadership Studies at Johnson University in 2020.

Dr. Obomeghie has held leadership positions in some of the biggest names in hospitality Hilton, Marriott, Radisson, Embassy Suites. He wasn’t just managing properties; he was redefining service standards and setting benchmarks.
At Marriott Sugar Land Houston and Embassy Suites Dulles Airport, his excellence didn’t go unnoticed. He won multiple awards, including General Manager of the Year from Remington Hotels. In 2008, he became COO of New Generation Hotels, and by 2009, he was CEO at Mercury Hotels.
His most influential role yet is as President and CEO of the International Hospitality Institute (IHI) a Texas-based organization with a global reach, dedicated to shaping the future of the hospitality industry worldwide.
Dr. Obomeghie has overseen hotel assets valued at over one billion dollars. The annual revenue from his managed hotels exceeded 250 million dollars, covering brands like Sheraton, Hyatt, and Renaissance.
He didn’t just build hotels he built careers, empowered minorities, and championed global standards. The IHI under his leadership trains, certifies, and connects professionals across borders, proving that excellence is not confined by geography.
Obomeghie is not just a CEO he’s a storyteller. He’s the author of several books, including Dead or Alive, The World According to Jeffrey O, Get Rich, Get Happy, Get Love, and The Collector of Butterflies.
Each book reflects the depth of his thinking part philosopher, part strategist, part humanist. His writing bridges the gap between boardroom wisdom and street-smart survival.
Jeffrey Obomeghie isn’t just a Nigerian living the American dream. He’s a living case study in cross-continental excellence. His life tells young Africans that your past is not a prison and your future is not fixed.

In a world where Africans in the diaspora often have to fight twice as hard to get half the recognition, Obomeghie’s rise offers inspiration, blueprint, and a challenge: why not you?
“You don’t need permission to lead; you just need vision and consistency,” Dr. Obomeghie once wrote. And he’s living proof.
