Funmi Olorunnipa Badejo is a standout Nigerian-American legal professional whose career spans the highest levels of U.S. government and the global technology sector. She currently serves as Head of Compliance at Palantir Technologies, Inc., where she oversees regulatory compliance, corporate governance, and ethical risk management within one of the world’s most influential data and software companies.

Her national recognition accelerated in January 2021, when U.S. President-elect Joe Biden appointed her as Special Assistant to the President and Associate Counsel in the White House Counsel’s Office. Appointed at a notably young age, she was selected as part of a team of accomplished legal experts entrusted with advising the presidency on constitutional, ethical, and policy-related matters at the start of the Biden–Harris administration.

Prior to her White House appointment, Olorunnipa Badejo built a solid record in federal public service. She served as Counsel for Policy to the Assistant Attorney General in the Civil Division of the U.S. Department of Justice, contributing to legal policy development and complex litigation strategy. She also worked as Ethics Counsel in the White House Counsel’s Office and as an Attorney Advisor at the Administrative Conference of the United States, focusing on administrative law and regulatory governance.

Her experience extends to congressional oversight during a period of national crisis. She served as General Counsel to the U.S. House of Representatives Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis, chaired by House Majority Whip James Clyburn. In that role, she played a key part in ensuring accountability and legal oversight of the U.S. government’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In the private sector, Olorunnipa Badejo began her legal career as an associate at Manatt, Phelps & Phillips, LLP before moving into technology law. She previously worked as Legal Counsel at Palantir Technologies, a background that gave her first-hand exposure to the legal and compliance challenges facing global tech firms, and later positioned her for senior leadership within the company.

Her academic credentials reflect the depth of her professional preparation. She is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley School of Law, Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government, and the University of Florida, combining rigorous legal training with advanced public policy education.

As part of a growing cohort of Nigerian-Americans appointed to strategic roles in the U.S. government, alongside figures such as Adewale Adeyemo and Osaremen Okolo, Funmi Olorunnipa Badejo exemplifies the influence of the Nigerian diaspora on global governance and policy.

Her journey underscores a clear reality: diaspora excellence is built on competence, credibility, and sustained service, not visibility alone.
