The Zumunta Association USA Inc., a leading Nigerian diaspora group, has announced plans to train 1,000 youths in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) during its 2025 Annual Convention.
At a joint press conference in Abuja, the association’s National President, Mr. Sunday Bitrus, revealed that the convention, only the second to be held in Nigeria in the association’s 35-year history will take place in Nasarawa State from July 14 to 23, 2025. The event is scheduled to align with the National Diaspora Day and Diaspora Week activities set for July 25–26 in Abuja.
With the theme “From Connection to Action: Mobilizing Local Experience and Diasporan Insights for National Development,” the convention is designed to deepen diaspora-driven contributions through impactful programs and strategic collaboration.

The 10-day event will also feature free medical outreach, golf and tennis tournaments, and high-level business meetings targeting sectors such as agriculture, mining, health, and housing. Zumunta will also engage directly with stakeholders at national diaspora events.
Bitrus noted that the association has awarded scholarships to over 5,000 science students in Northern Nigeria and disbursed over ₦100 million to support education. Additionally, Zumunta has collaborated with over 30 NGOs to deliver health and palliative projects.
“We’re moving from dialogue to delivery bringing our diaspora resources home to create real impact,” Bitrus stated.
Representing the Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the Commission’s Secretary, Dr. Sule Yakubu Bassi, praised the initiative. He said the return of the Zumunta Convention marks a significant step in effective diaspora engagement.
“Zumunta is showing that the diaspora isn’t on the sidelines they are involved and committed. This convention highlights the potential of collaboration between diaspora groups, state governments, and federal institutions,” Bassi said.
The convention affirms Zumunta’s growing role in driving development-focused initiatives from abroad, turning connections into tangible contributions for Nigeria’s future.
