The Diaspora Coalition for Good Governance (DCGG) has welcomed the appointment of former Lagos State Deputy Governor, Olufemi Pedro, as Nigeria’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Australia.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu recently named Pedro to represent Nigeria in the Oceanic nation as part of efforts to strengthen diplomatic ties and expand economic cooperation between both countries.
n a statement issued by the coalition’s president, Tochukwu Onah, the group described the appointment as a strategic move that reflects confidence in Pedro’s experience in governance and finance.
Onah noted that Pedro’s background in banking and public service positions him to advance Nigeria’s diplomatic interests while encouraging stronger economic partnerships between Nigeria and Australia.
He explained that the appointment comes at a time when Nigeria is seeking to deepen relationships with its diaspora community and unlock new opportunities for investment and collaboration.
The coalition also pointed out that Australia offers promising prospects for Nigeria, particularly in sectors such as mining, agriculture, and educational technology, where Nigerian professionals are already making significant contributions.
According to the group, members of the Nigerian community in Australia are willing to collaborate with the Nigerian High Commission to promote improved consular services and foster initiatives that support national development.
