Croatia Launches Funding Support to Translate Foreign Degrees for Returning Diaspora

The Croatian government has introduced a financial support scheme aimed at easing the reintegration of its diaspora by covering the cost of translating foreign academic qualifications.
Announced by the Ministry of Demography and Immigration, the initiative provides a total funding pool of €25,000 to assist returning emigrants and their families in translating higher education documents into Croatian.
The programme is designed to reduce bureaucratic obstacles often faced by returnees seeking recognition of overseas qualifications within the country’s labour market.
Eligible applicants include Croatian emigrants, their descendants, and family members. Applicants must either hold Croatian citizenship or possess valid residence permits tied to return or immigration status.
To qualify, individuals must have completed their higher education abroad and require official translation of their credentials.
The funding specifically covers translation of documents such as university diplomas, academic certificates, and, where necessary, detailed course curricula from foreign institutions.
Authorities clarified that the support applies regardless of the profession or the specific recognition process involved.
All translations must be carried out by certified court interpreters, whether within Croatia or abroad, provided the translated documents are properly verified.
Applications are to be submitted electronically through the Ministry’s official channels, with the programme remaining open until November 30, 2026, or until available funds are exhausted.
The initiative forms part of broader national efforts to encourage diaspora return and facilitate smoother integration into Croatia’s workforce.
