Nigerians across the country and in the diaspora marked Christmas and Boxing Day with joy, reflection, and renewed cultural connections as families and communities came together to celebrate the festive season.

From major Nigerian cities to diaspora hubs in Europe, North America, and Africa, the celebrations were characterised by church services, family gatherings, cultural events, and virtual connections that bridged distance.
In Nigeria, Christmas Day featured colourful church programs, family feasts, neighbourhood visits, and children’s activities, with homes filled with music, laughter, and traditional meals.
Boxing Day extended the festivities, as many residents and returning diaspora visitors engaged in outings, shopping, social gatherings, and relaxation, boosting activity across hospitality and retail sectors.

Diaspora communities also observed the season through cultural meet-ups, charity events, and family dinners, blending Nigerian traditions with local customs in their host countries.
“Christmas is always special for Nigerians, whether at home or abroad. It is a time when families reconnect, reflect on the year, and celebrate shared values of love and togetherness,” a Lagos-based resident said.
“For Nigerians in the diaspora, Christmas and Boxing Day provide moments to reconnect with home emotionally through prayers, calls, and community gatherings, even when travel is not possible,” a UK-based Nigerian added.
Observers say the Christmas and Boxing Day celebrations continue to strengthen bonds among Nigerians worldwide, reinforcing a shared sense of identity, culture, and hope for the year ahead.
