The Canadian government has announced a fresh increase in application fees for permanent residency and citizenship, affecting Nigerians and other foreign nationals seeking to relocate.

According to an official update from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), the revised charges will take effect from April 30, 2026. Applications submitted from that date onward will be processed under the new fee structure.

Authorities explained that the adjustment is part of routine updates aimed at sustaining efficient service delivery and keeping up with inflation and rising operational costs.

Under the new structure, the Right of Permanent Residence Fee will rise from $575 to $600, while the Provincial Nominee Programme fee increases from $950 to $990. Business immigration applicants will now pay $1,895, up from $1,810.

Family sponsorship fees will increase to $570, while protected persons and humanitarian applications will now cost $660. Permit holders will also see a slight increase to $390.

In addition, the Right of Citizenship Fee has been raised to $123, reflecting a modest percentage increase.

IRCC noted that permanent residence fees are typically reviewed every two years under existing immigration regulations to reflect programme demands and administrative costs.

The changes are expected to impact thousands of prospective migrants, including many Nigerians exploring relocation opportunities to Canada.
